MUSANZE - The Rector of Ruhengeri Institute of Higher Education-INES, Fr. Dr Deogratias Niyibizi, has revealed that, the Institute plans to change its curriculum and teaching methodology in order to turn it into an institute of applied sciences.

He revealed this during a consultative meeting convened at the institute to design ways of redesigning the teaching modules in line with community.

‘‘We are focusing towards a specific line of education by giving students practical skills which will help them become competitive and self supporting upon completion. We are therefore working to create a difference; both in research and making students knowledge disseminators,’’ Fr Niyibizi said.

The institute recently introduced, a department of Land Survey, through which graduates will help in solving land related problems, offer environment, urban planning and road building skills, especially in the rural areas.

At the meeting, it was also decided the Department of Languages adopts other related education subjects in order to produce graduates who can teach the languages in schools.

Speaking at the same meeting, Prof. Geoffrey Rugege, the Executive Director for Higher Education Council, said that institutions of higher learning should focus on courses which are relevant to the development of the country.

‘’Institutions should develop strategies for developing a particular road map, which enables them define what they are meant to do. What business are we in? I commend INES for this orientation,’’ Prof. Rugege said.
