THE Primus National Football league (PNFL) has been temporarily called off to pave way for the highly coveted Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Amavubi Stars who are in Malawi for a Fifa international friendly match, are one of twelve teams vying for this year’s Challenge Cup which kicks at the end of this month in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.

Reigning champions APR head into the break contented after maintaining their 100 per cent start to the season with Saturday’s hard earned 1-0 away victory to Musanze.

The win moved them to 15 points, four clear of their closest challenger Etincelles, who also recorded a 3-0 win over Marines on Sunday.

At Nyamirambo’s regional stadium, newly promoted La Jeunesse continued to make their presence felt in the top flight after holding six time champions Rayon Sport to a goalless draw while SC Kiyovu continued their recovery from a slow start with a resounding 3-0 victory over Muhanga.

Dady Birori was the star man after scoring a hat trick. He also becomes the first player this season to score a hat trick.

After day five, APR, Etincelles, Rayon Sport and Police are the only sides yet to lose a game in the league.
