KIGALI - The High Court has turned down a bail application by Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, the leader of the yet-to-be-registered political party, FDU-Inkingi, and upheld a decision by the Gasabo Intermediate Court to keep her in jail.

Judge Johnston Busingye pointed out some inconsistencies in the bail application and noted that the court found serious reasons as to why Ingabire didn’t deserve bail.

The Prosecution has maintained that Ingabire is a terrorist masquerading as a politician and that she has been working with senior FDLR militiamen to form a military wing to her unregistered party FDU, aimed at destabilising Rwanda.

"The Prosecution is currently focused on finalising a substantive case against Victoire Ingabire,” Prosecutor General, Martin Ngoga, said after the court ruling. We continue to pursue additional information on suspects outside Rwanda and are getting good signs of cooperation from their host countries.

"This will determine whether or not there will be a joint trial. Those being investigated include Paul Rusesabagina,. We have been in contact with American authorities and are now also in contact with the authorities in Belgium where Rusesabagina currently resides,” said Ngoga.

Ingabire’s trial is scheduled to begin in 30 days time.
