I write to thank you for continuing to provide us with updated news about our country and I am especially fond of your commentaries page. I am an ardent reader of your newspaper and I am writing to comment about education in Rwanda.

Sir, I am impressed by the statistics of school going children in Rwanda and I am excited about the fact that they increase with each year, an improvement that is synonymous with the government’s developmental plans for its people.

I would like to call on all parents, and other responsible citizens to continue supporting the government in transforming this country into a knowledge based economy where by 2020, the issue of illiteracy should be on its way to total eradication.

We all need to keep in mind that when it comes to nation building, all children belong to us. When it comes to disciplining children or simply showing them a better path that will shape their future, the responsibility should not be left to teachers, parents or the guardians. We should treat all children like ours and no matter how busy we are, strive to throw in a wise word at every given opportunity.

I have seen, for instance, some gentlemen in my area who volunteer to help children cross busy streets during lunch and after school hours. That is commendable.

I would like to request every responsible citizen to make it a point to spread the gospel of the importance of education to children who are reluctant to go to school and those who are reluctant to take their lessons in class seriously and parents who may still feel negatively about sending their children to school. This should be one of our campaigns because with educated minds, we can conquer the world.
