KIGALI - The Minister in the President’s Office in charge of ICT, Dr. Ignace Gatare, has called on ICT institutions to embark on making use of new technology innovations in order to sustain the country’s development.

Gatare made the call yesterday at Kicukiro Technical College while trying out new electronic equipment donated to the college by a German firm, Lucas-Nulle.

He noted that there is need for more use of new technologies to meet the labour market needs.

"The speed at which our country is developing is not proportional to the speed of development of practical skills technology,” he said.

"Take advantage of any new technology for sustainability of the development of the country,” said Gatare, adding that the government supports any new innovations that benefit the citizens.

The minister pointed out that the government is investing a great deal in putting in place policies, strategies and programmes meant to promote a vibrant ICT industry.

The government through the Workforce Development Authority (WDA), has equipped Kicukiro Technical College with equipment worth Rwf250 million to facilitate practical teaching.

The materials include wave sounds and video transmission equipment and fibre optic facilities among others.
