NORTHENRN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — Residents of Gashaki Sector, said to be one of the poorest sectors in the district have been urged to engage in developmental activities to eradicate poverty from their midst.

Speaking during celebrations to mark heroes’ day at Gashaki Sector, MP Evode Kayima, one of the visitors who graced the district celebrations noted that leading a visionary cause which can transform society is an act of heroism.

"The responsibility lies in the hands of every Rwandan to influence change especially in regard to economic revolution,’’ Kayima said.

Reflecting on the relevance of the day, Brig. Gen Muco Kamanzi of the RDF said heroes are remembered for foregoing self interests in favour of general interests. He observed that it required devotion and sacrifice to become a hero.

However, the turn up was low, dominated by students, prompting the district mayor Celestin Karabayinga in a rather harsh tone to order Cell leaders to convene for an urgent meeting at Sector offices.

The details of the closed meeting were not easily established, but sources that asked not to be named said the mayor castigated the group for poor mobilisation.
