GAKENKE - It was all celebrations for residents of Gakenke, as the district unveiled development projects worth over Rwf4 billon with funding from the Belgian Technical Cooperation-BTC, on Tuesday.

BTC which has been supporting the district through a local project known as Support to Local Development of Gakenke district-PADL, wrapped up its five-year support to the district’s development projects.

The projects, some of which were officially commissioned on Tuesday, by the Belgian Ambassador to Rwanda, Ivo Goemans, included the district’s multipurpose hall worth Rwf76m, a Rwf220m modern market, construction of two silos worth Rwf52m, and water supply projects to Gakenke and Nemba centres.

In his remarks, Ambassador, Ivo Goemans said that the projects were funded in the spirit of cooperation between the Belgian government and Rwanda, meant in part to enhance food security and to support the decentralisation initiatives.

"I have the pleasure to have seen the accomplishment of these projects, what has been done in this phase has been successful, I wish the people of Gakenke and their children prosperity,’’ Ivo Goemans said.

The initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and food insecurity in families have been implemented in the district, and we hope that the process of transformation will continue,’’ district Mayor, Pierre Damien Hakizayezu said.
