The local basketball governing body, Ferwaba has named a provisional national junior team of 52 players ahead of this year’s Junior African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The players were selected basing on their performances in a two-week training camp that was held back in December.

The training camp which had attracted over 400 players across the country winded up with a two-day tournament and Jean Lucien Mugabo, Ferwaba’s secretary general believes that the camp was a good forum for selecting the country’s future talent.

"We are going to have more and more tournaments to help us pick the cream of this lot,” Mugabo said.

"This squad will be slowly trimmed down until we get the final 18 that we are looking for,” Ferwaba’s technical advisor Innocent Karuhije added.

Although it is not yet clear where the qualifiers will be held, Egypt has been confirmed as host for the Junior African Cup of Nations.
