Depressing stories where mothers or fathers kill their own children are common in the newspapers today and seem to increase day by day.

I read with shock a story that appeared in The Newtimes of  November, 10 about a callous woman in Kayonza District who was arrested after she allegedly killed her newborn baby and later dumped the body in a pit-latrine.

What is wrong with this woman? Are we evil by nature or we do things because we are forced by circumstances and we don’t have alternatives?

Killing any human being is criminal and punishable but it sounds sacrilege if it’s done by a mother.

A part from arresting these killers, I suggest that police put in place a team to work with doctors and investigate why mothers are killing their own babies.
