KIYOVU coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira can finally afford a smile. Talking to Times Sport yesterday, the under  pressure coach revealed how he is relieved after seeing his team secure their first win of the season against Musanze on Saturday.

Highly billed to halt APR’s dominance in the preseason, Kiyovu has been anything but a pale shadow of a title winning team.

The Nyamirambo side lost its opening tie of the Primus National Football League against AS Kigali (0-1) and then had to share points with newly promoted La Jeunesse after a disappointing stalemate (1-1). Things got worse last Sunday after losing 2-1 against reigning champions APR.

The former APR and Atraco coach partly blames the club administration for the poor start.

"Players had gone three months without pay but the issue has been resolved and I’m positive we are all going to see a different team in the coming weeks,” Ntagwabira said.”

Kiyovu were touted as genuine Primus National Football League title contenders after sweeping the preseason Primus Cup, but league defeats against APR and, far more worryingly, AS Kigali, had provoked fans to call for change in the head coach department.

This weekend, the green baggies play Muhanga.
