KAMPALA - Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Maj Gen Frank Mugambage has called upon the youth to strongly uphold cultural values and contribute towards consolidating the progress the country has achieved so far.

The envoy made the remarks on Sunday while addressing hundreds of Rwandan students who had gathered at the Kampala International University (KIU) for a prayer conference.

He reiterated the need for concerted efforts to keep on the development path, adding that not much can be achieved if people worked in isolation.

"We share a common destiny and culture, if we don’t come together on this, we can’t do much individually,” Mugambage told the students.

The conference was marked by cultural performances and sermons led by the chairman of the KIU Rwandan students association, Pastor Festus Kabahizi.
Mugambage added that the country’s progress is derived from the strong belief Rwandans have in the political leadership of their country.

"This is the very reason Rwanda is no longer the tiny African country that people used to talk about. It now speaks and people listen attentively,” he said.
"Let us build a value-based society where everybody has a responsibility to build their country and take it to greater heights”.

KIU administrator, Abbas Agaba, announced that the university would soon open a new campus in Kigali.
He commended Rwandan students for being simple and spiritually focused and called on them to avoid contracting the HIV Aids virus.

Meanwhile, over 100 Rwandan students graduated in the undergraduate and post graduate programs during the University’s 8th graduation ceremony over the weekend.
