Kigali Institute of Management’s new Rector, Prof. Daniel Musungu Orwoch,  has revealed new innovations to make the institute more competitive in the country.

Prof. Orwoch, a Kenyan, is a professor of practice and entrepreneurship and has been Rector for 16 years in institutes namely Kenya Institute of Administration and Kenya College of Accountancy.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times, Orwoch said he has designed plans to strengthen the courses offered at the institute by adding other trainings that will support the core.

"We are going to enrich accountancy and finance by applying ICT and leadership skills to them. This will help the graduates have relevant skills needed in their professions.”  

"We are also going to diversify technicians, a cadre of people that will work to fill skills gaps, especially technical skills in the country.”

Orwoch added that he will also put much emphasis on releasing students who will create jobs rather than job seekers. In this development he said the institute plans to establish a vibrant research department by introducing appropriate technology.

Orwoch further said that KIM has gone through all the stages needed to become a university and that it is still awaiting accreditation from Higher Education Council (HEC).
Prof. Orwoch replaced former Rector, Prof. Benjamin Akinyemi, last month. The latter had run the institute for one year.
