East Africa’s Tusker Project Fame 3 winner Alpha Rwirangira, was among the big winners at last night’s 2010 PAM Awards, taking home the prestigious title of “Best Rwandan Male Artist.” In addition, the “Come to me” singer stole the show with his tribute to lifetime achievement, and sampled his fans at the show with a portion of some of his classic performances.
East Africa’s Tusker Project Fame 3 winner Alpha Rwirangira, was among the big winners at last night’s 2010 PAM Awards, taking home the prestigious title of "Best Rwandan Male Artist.”
In addition, the "Come to me” singer stole the show with his tribute to lifetime achievement, and sampled his fans at the show with a portion of some of his classic performances.
Rwirangira out competed various male artists, who included: Rafiki, Mako Nikwoshi and the self-appointed general, Gen. Ozzy.
Songbird, Miss Jojo was voted the ‘Best Rwandan Female Artist’, beating three competitors: Kamaliza, Shanel and Queen Ally, the twice Pam award winner.
Alpha was in a terrible panic before, until Dr. Maggie Kigozi declared him the winner, and his fans screamed out his name in excitement.
"I’m real happy to win this award…it’s not a simple task, but, I want to thank my supporters for doing tremendous job to support me,” Alpha told The New Times.
He added that: "…this is just the beginning am optimistic that next year, I will win more awards.”
That same night witnessed excitements which filled the room, as the ‘Agenze’ superstar, Bebe Cool, stole the show, winning the ‘Best 2010 PAM Award winner.’
It was a tight race, in which Bebe Cool emerged the winner after beating big names in Uganda’s music industry: Dr. Chameleon, Bobi Wine and Radio and Weasel of the Goodlyfe Crew.
Isaac Mulindwa, the Chairman and the organiser of Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM) awards, noted that Alpha has the potential to win more East African music awards.
"Am glad that people voted for him because he is a good singer,” Mulindwa said. "Alpha has wonderful voice, so he is capable of becoming the best artist in the region.”
Other regional winners included, Nameless, who was voted ‘Best Kenyan Male Artist,” A.Y ‘Best Tanzanian Male Artist’, while Kidum scooped the ‘Best Burundian Male Artist”.
In the female category, Iryn Namubiru named ‘Best Ugandan Female Artist”, Wahu in Kenya, Lady Jay D in Tanzania, whilst Nziza Desire emerged the winner from Burundi.
