RAYON are now four points adrift of table leaders and reigning champions APR following yesterday’s 3-all draw against Etincelles at Amahoro Stadium.

The Blues marched into the game well aware that they needed to win to keep APR under pressure. Unfortunately, Etincelles had their own agenda.

The Western Province side, who are still riding high after last year’s impressive primus league performance (runners up to APR), quickly pushed Rayon on the back foot with a 6th minute strike from the impressive left back Blaise Nizeyimana. However, the lead lasted only four minutes as Abedi Mulenda scored from close range.

On the 38th minute, Kevin Beningabo put Etincelles back on top with a powerful shot but Rayon kept fighting and got their reward two minutes from half time through Tanzania import Didier Mburu.

After the break, Beningabo scored his second of the day to silence the noisy stadium. Things got worse for Rayon when they were reduced to nine men after red cards of Kabanda Bienfait and Congolese Mukamba Namasambwa.
But Emmanuel Ruremesha’s side showed great resilience as they rescued a point when Mulenda left four defenders on the ground to score his second with a clean chip over Etincelles goalkeeper Charles Hakizimana.

At Nyamirambo’s regional stadium, goals from Jean Shyaka and Berch Bawuma steered Kiyovu to a much needed 2-0 win over Musanze. It was the green baggies’ first victory of the Primus National Football league.

APR meanwhile maintained their 100 per cent start to the league with a 2-0 win over AS Kigali. Haruna Niyonzima set up Kabange Twite for the first goal before getting his name on the score sheet with a thunderous strike on the 81st minute.

The win moved APR to 12 points, four points clear of Rayon, Police and Etincelles who are tied in second place with eight points.
