HUYE - The National University of Rwanda Volleyball team; the 2010 national volleyball champions, were on Friday hosted to a sumptuous dinner by Varsity authorities.

The newly crowned champions completed a double last Sunday after defeating APR volley ball club 3 sets  against 2 in the Carre d’AS tournament; the ultimate tournament of the season.

Speaking during the victory party, Prof Silas Lwakabamba, the University Rector, pledged more support to all NUR sports teams. He challenged the team to retain the trophy in next year’s championship.

‘I know you have gone through difficult times, like lack of enough sports equipment. The University recognizes this need and is doing everything possible to support you,” said Lwakabamba.

He challenged the women’s team to emulate their male colleagues.The players resurrected the issue of sports bursaries which were recently suspended.

Professor Lwakabamba said that the scheme was abused but hastened to add that a new policy that sets the criteria for selecting bonafide beneficiaries is in the offing.
