Muslim pilgrims jet off to Mecca

Sheikh Abdur Karim Gahutu, yesterday, saw off a group of 103 Muslims who made pilgrimage, known as The Hajj, to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, as a fulfilment of one of the five pillars of Islam, obliging able Muslims to visit the city at least once in their lifetime.

Sheikh Abdur Karim Gahutu, yesterday, saw off a group of 103 Muslims who made pilgrimage, known as The Hajj, to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, as a fulfilment of one of the five pillars of Islam, obliging able Muslims to visit the city at least once in their lifetime.

The group, which is a record high in the country, gathered at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Nyamirambo, where they were briefed by Sheikh Gahutu and then transported by bus to Kigali International Airport.

In his briefing, Sheikh Gahutu congratulated and urged them to remain focused on fulfilling the purpose of the pilgrimage and also show their patriotism by representing Rwanda well.

"You are the chosen few that God has chosen to fulfil the Hajj; use your time well to please God,” Sheikh Gahutu said in his address.

The group composed of 50 women, 51 men and 2 children. They will arrive back in Kigali on November 29.
