Living Life : Success Consciousness

We live in a world in which millions of success mantras are constantly thrown at us from everywhere. Humans, the whole six billon of the lot, are desperate to get out of the rat race, or at least most of us.

We would like to earn more and feel less sad about our inability to impact positively on our families and communities when we wish to. As a result, we have built a consciousness of poverty – a sort of buffer against poverty – don’t do this or that to avoid poverty.

The anti-poverty, anti-slum movement is so huge, so well oiled and so unsuccessful that it just never ends. Look at Haiti and think of the tons of money that have been thrown at the post earthquake problem just because there was an earthquake and see how so little has been done.

In effect, most of us are stuck where we don’t want to go because of the fear of our status quo. We cannot get out of what we are because we are too focused on trying not to be what we are.

The book, Think and Grow Rich calls it ‘a failure consciousness.’ Let’s break it down. If you want to travel from Kiyovu to Remera you have to visualize Remera and focus on options of getting yourself there such as by car, motorcycle, airplane or by foot. By the end of it, you will have chosen one of the means and found ways of using that means. But if you constantly think about Kiyovu and how you don’t want to remain there, you will never have time to think about how to get to Remera, so you will remain stuck in Kiyovu.

Instead, you need to be success conscious – think constantly of success even if it is a far off dream. Success consciousness may look like some sort of madness by a poor man about a different situation of constant abundance but it pays.

The aim is not just to give you an obsession about your own master plan to move you from one position of poverty to abundance but to want it so badly that the message moves from your conscious to your subconscious.

A success consciousness helps one to break away from the chains of personal beliefs and impressions and how these become your limit of how far you can grow. Some people would like to judge everything they see according to their own views. If that view comes from an upbringing of poverty then however much they are placed in a position of affluence they continue to view everything about their affluent surroundings in distrust or disgust because in their upbringing such was viewed as so.

You can take a man out of poverty but not poverty out of a man. To grow a success consciousness is the best way to train oneself to achieve success.

I wish you a success minded Sunday!
