Volunteers asked to fight gender violence

Closing one-week workshop for Red Cross volunteers from Kayonza recently, at CFJ,  Anitha Umutesi, the district vice mayor in charge of social affairs urged participants to cooperate with local leaders in the fight against gender violence in society.

KAYONZA — Red Cross volunteers have been asked to help in combating gender violence among residents. Closing one-week workshop for Red Cross volunteers from Kayonza recently, at CFJ,  Anitha Umutesi, the district vice mayor in charge of social affairs urged participants to cooperate with local leaders in the fight against gender violence in society.

"I call upon you to be good ambassadors of Red Cross. Let us expand the Red Cross family. May I also ask you to put more effort in the fight against gender based violence, violence against children and women,” Umutesi who also doubles as the district Red Cross President said. She asked participants to help in the construction of houses for Genocide survivors.

The group said they would sensitise residents about the international laws, and fight violence against women and children in the district. They revealed that they had volunteered to campaign against genocide ideology in schools.
