I lived in the Diaspora for over a decade and last year I decided to come back home. I am an addict of Television news and one of the things that attract me to all national TV broadcasts I watch is local production and national news.
From all the countries I lived in (including some which lack resources we have), programming on our national TV, the Rwanda Television, is the most boring. But even with its sub-standard production, I am still loyal to RTV simply because I am a patriotic Rwandan and I always want to know what is happening in my country.
Apart from the news bulletin the programming needs to be revised and investment needs to be placed in writing local scripts. My concern is that Nation Media Group has reaffirmed its commitment to start Nation
TV (NTV) with 90 percent quality local production.
But even with that announcement, we still don’t see any change at RTV. Someone please ask the top management at RTV; shouldn’t they really be worried that another competitor is on his way to share their market?’
Isn’t this the time to see a better RTV?
