GATSIBO - Two men have been arrested and are being detained at Kiramuruzi Police Post in Gatsibo District for growing marijuana.

Celestin Kayiru and Claude Mivumbiko, both residents of Murambi sector in Gatsibo District, were arrested while tending to the cannabis garden.

"We caught them while weeding. Residents should be sensitised to understand that it’s illegal to grow marijuana,” a Police official told The New Times.

However, the suspects denied the crime, arguing they were just working in another person’s garden when Police arrested them.

"We were working in a farm belonging to Karasira who lives in Kigali. We were shocked by the arrest,” Kayiru, one of the suspects said. Mivumbiko, said he was not aware they were tending to a marijuana garden.
