Four people have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder of a family member, an act that witnesses attribute to domestic wrangles.

Two of the arrested, Seraphine Mukantagara and Antoine Nsanzimana, are currently detained at Remera Police Station after they were picked up Wednesday night in Nyamirambo, a city suburb in Nyarugenge District.

It is alleged that Mukantagara, with the help of Nsanzimana, a retired soldier, hired a policeman and a fellow retired soldier, to assassinate Tatien Ndwaniye of Nyaruguru District to repossess a house he occupied following the death of his son.

The two men hired to execute the mission were identified by police as Jean Pierre Nyirinkindi (the retired soldier) and Khalid Rudakemwa.

Ndwaniye is Mukantagara’s father in-law while Nsanzimana, is Mukantagara current spouse.

The would-be assassins who are said to have accepted to execute the mission for Rwf 2m, were arrested in Nyaruguru on their way to accomplish their assignment.
At the time of their arrest, the duo was found in possession of a gun. 

Police Spokesperson, Supt. Eric Kayiranga who confirmed the arrest said that they got a tip-off from sources.

"After we were tipped by some people, we tailed and arrested the would-be-killers in Nyaruguru District,” Kayiranga said.

"With the help of Nsanzimana, Mukantagara had planned to kill his father-in-law to that she takes recover the house,” Kayiranga added.

The said house is alleged to have caused tension between Mukantagara and her father-in-law following the death of her husband.

Mukantagara claimed that the house belonged to her late husband and the case was already in court.
