RWANDA’s top beach volleyballers Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma and Flavien Ndamukunda are in Uganda to compete at this weekend’s Entebbe International circuit at Lido beach.
The pair, together with Kwizera Pierre Marshal and Fidele Leon Mutesi, will use the two day event as a build-up to next month’s sub-zone 8 (East and Central Africa) beach volleyball tournament in Rwanda.
The competition, set to run from December 2-4, is a qualifier for the ground breaking CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup, a new qualification system for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Rwanda will battle Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Somalia for that lone qualifying slot.
Rwanda needs to earn a zonal slot so as to qualify for the continental finals where the overall winner will earn an automatic slot to the London 2012 Games, while the first and second runners up will qualify for the FIVB World Beach Volleyball Cup, earning another chance to clinch a place at the Olympic Games.
At Lido beach, the Rwandan quartet will line up against defending champions Tresor Ntwari and Jeremiah Minani of Burundi, among others.
