Injured: Haruna Niyonzima.

APR’s Haruna Niyonzima will be sidelined for three weeks after damaging a knee ligament in last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Etincelles.

The APR manager Capt. Eric Ntazinda yesterday said that Haruna who is undergoing treatment at King Faycal Hospital will be out of action for at least three weeks.

During this time, the national U -20 captain is expected to miss up to three APR fixtures; two league fixtures against Kiyovu (Feb.9) and AS Kigali (Feb. 20), a CAF Champions League tie against Zamalek (Feb.16) on top of Rwanda’s international friendly against Burundi next Wednesday.

The midfielder is however expected to be fit for APR’s league game against archrivals Rayon Sport on February 23. In a related development, the injury could be a set back for the midfielder’s pro dreams.

For the past few weeks, it is said that the former Rayon Sports star has been gearing up for pro-trials in Spain. After a formidable display during last year’s Cecafa Challenge Cup that was held in Dar es Salaam, a number of foreign clubs are said to be closely monitoring him.

Times Sport has also learnt that Niyonzima’s pro-move is being handled by Azzedine Saoud, a Norway-based scout who also doubles as a marketing manager for Gran Canaria football center which is famous for scouting African talents.
