THE men’s volleyball coach at the National University of Rwanda (UNR) Fidele Nyirimana has vowed to bring the glory days back at the university.

And there is no better timing for the pledge than a few days after steering the club to a double.

After ending their four year wait with a first league title last week, the varsity side wrapped up a double on Sunday after grinding out a hard fought 3-2 win over arch rivals APR in the Carre d’AS final at Amahoro’s indoor stadium.

UNR’s chances looked slim after three sets when they trailed APR 1-2 (25-14, 22-25, 28-30) but the team bounced back to win the fourth set (25-21) and the decisive set 15-13 to leave their on-looking rector Professor Silas Lwakabamba excited.

Nyirimana, a former UNR and national team libero has now set his sights at exerting the dominance for a long time.
"The players have come of age. The way they fought back in the fourth set was simply remarkable,” he noted.
"We have won two titles this year and I must say we fully deserved them. But it is not over. We have to keep this run going for many years to come.”

In the women category, Rwanda Revenue Authority could not emulate UNR after falling to APR 2-3. With the league title already in the trophy shelf, the tax –collectors walked into the final with a double at the back of their minds.
UNR (men) and APR (women) received Rwf300, 000 for the victory while APR (men) and RRA (women) settled for Rwf200, 000 respectively.
