Respect is an amazing quality that is earned. In order to be respected you have to respect others a well. If you take as look at the youth of today, you can’t help but notice that many are disrespectful.

According to the Ten Commandments in the Bible, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother”— is the first commandment with a promise.

The promise is, "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 5:6).
This is the only commandment in the Bible backed up with a promise, and, as children, we ought to obey our parents and live longer in this world just as the Lord said.
If you obey this commandment blessings will flow your way.
Your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you. It’s a good thing to have long life. God has promised this to those who honor and love their parents.

Though our tradition and culture give a high value and respect for parents, there are also many sad stories in the media of parents, grandparents and relatives mistreating children.

Parents are not supposed to mistreat their children, but they should instead love and respect them as individuals. Respect promotes harmony and coexistence in the different societies we live in.

When we respect people, we get blessings and other rewards that we may need from God and people. There is no harm in respecting, try it today and experience its worth.
