GICUMBI - Residents of Rushaki Sector have been called upon to utilize the existing infrastructures in their area to accelerate development.
The call was made on Thursday by Mayor of Gicumbi, Bonane Nyangezi, after participating in community work (Umuganda) to construct water trenches along the slopes of Muyumbi hill in Karurama Cell.
"It is important that you take advantage of the current rainy season to increase agricultural production in order to guarantee food security in your Sector and the entire District”, said Nyangezi.
Gicumbi District Police Commander (DPC) Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza called on the residents to report cases of gender based violence (GBV), by cooperating with local leaders and security organs at all times.
Gashagaza further cautioned the residents against the trafficking and consumption of illicit alcoholic drinks, commonly referred to as "Kanyanga”.
"Kanyanga is the root cause of GB- related cases, which is why a collective effort is needed to eradicate its trafficking and consumption in the District”, said Gashagaza.
Rushaki Sector executive Secretary Frank Kamu said the Sector plans to increase its savings in UMURENGE SACCO from the current Frw five million to Frw 10 million, by the year 2011.
