NGOs call for more funding for agriculture

Local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have called on the government to increase funding to the agricultural sector. The NGOs made the call yesterday during an event to unveil the results of a survey they carried out recently. According to CCOAIB, FROFEMMES TWESE HAMWE and AJPRODHO who conducted the survey, the aim of the study was to identify, analyze various issues regarding the agriculture sector in the country.

Local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have called on the government to increase funding to the agricultural sector.

The NGOs made the call yesterday during an event to unveil the results of a survey they carried out recently.
According to CCOAIB, FROFEMMES TWESE HAMWE and AJPRODHO who conducted the survey, the aim of the study was to identify, analyze various issues regarding the agriculture sector in the country.

Addressing a press conference, the Executive Secretary of CCOAIB, Faustin Vuningoma, said that the survey revealed that agriculture contributes 7% of the GDP, adding that 90 of the population is involved in the sector, 35% being women.

"We are appealing to the government to increase the allocations from the budget from the current 7 percent to at least 10 percent” Vuningoma said.

"We appreciate what the government has done in as far as the promotion of the agricultural sector is concerned, but there is always room for improvement,” Vuningoma said.
