KIGALI - Delegates from the 12 African countries who were in the country for a two-day International Conference on the Role of Security Organs in Ending Violence against Women and Girls which ended Wednesday, yesterday paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana in Kacyiru and agreed to strengthen partnership in several fields.

According to Gasana, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in exchange of programmes such as training and gender mainstreaming.

"The MoUs will help us strengthen our cooperation and exchange ideas in fields like peacekeeping operations, community policing which has proved to be working in our country and training,” Gasana said.

Some of the countries that will soon be signing the MoU with Rwanda are Botswana which is known for its International Law Enforcement Academy (ILIA), one of the best in Africa.

Others are Chad, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and Zambia.
Nigeria has a world -class war college while Ghana has the best disaster management institution.

The delegates visited the 24-hour police call centre which provides toll free lines for those seeking help such as 3512, meant for GBV related cases, which have helped the police fulfil its mission in combating crime.

They also visited the Joint Operation Centre (JOC) of security organs where information is shared, paving the way to laying strategies in crime prevention and sensitization of citizens.

They commended the Rwandan force for the achievements in regard to crime prevention which they said will in turn help them in dealing with crimes in their respective countries.

The delegates who commended Rwanda, particular the police for the tremendous successes in combating GBV, vowed to continue cooperation for the benefit of their respective citizens.
