Students from 12 secondary schools in Nyarugenge District, yesterday completed training in conflict resolution in order to ensure harmony in their respective communities.

The training which was conducted by the Kigali-based Kimisagara Youth Centre (Maison des Jeunes), in conjunction with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation, GTZ-DED, was aimed at teaching leaders how to identify the various types of conflicts and how they can be resolved amicably.

Speaking to The New Times, the Donatien Nsengimana, the Director of the centre, said students are the future leaders of tomorrow, adding that conflict resolution becomes more effective through youth.

He added that the training is paramount because they encounter conflicts almost on a daily basis, hence the need to learn how to deal with them.

The coordinator of conflict resolution project in secondary schools, Lyhotely Ndagijimana, said that the training, once completed, would help them solve the problems in a more technical manner.

"In this training students are able to understand the various types of conflicts and also learnt that some conflicts can go an extra mile to cause violence,” said Ndagijimana.
