KIGALI - The First Lady Jeannette Kagame yesterday received Mrs Ban Soon-taek, wife to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, at Village Urugwiro.

Ki-moon has been on a working visit to Rwanda since Monday and is scheduled to leave for Ethiopia tonight.

According to a statement from the First Lady’s Office, Mrs Kagame gave Mrs Soon-taek and her delegation a brief overview of the activities under the newly established Imbuto Foundation and its transformation from Protection and Care for Families against Aids (PACFA).

Imbuto Foundation, launched recently by the First Lady’s Office, was created to carry forward and build on the good work of PACFA, which over the last six years has advocated consistently for and implemented initiatives on health, education and economic empowerment. Mrs Kagame is the patron of the foundation.

The Minister for Gender and Family Promotion in the Prime Minister’s Office, Valerie Nyirahabineza, as well as officials from the UN System in Rwanda and abroad attended yesterday’s meeting.

The statement said that during the meeting both parties discussed Rwanda’s strides toward development, and in particular, the plight of widows living with HIV/Aids as a result of the 1994 Genocide.

Mrs. Kagame also appreciated the support given by various UN agencies to the work of Imbuto Foundation, the statement added.

Mrs. Soon-taek lauded the foundation’s work in uplifting impoverished communities and vulnerable people, through its programmes in economic empowerment, education and health.
