UNR coach Fidele Nyirimana has paid glowing tribute to his team for halting APR’s dominance in the national volleyball league. The Varsity side ended a four-year wait to lift this year’s league title after thrashing Gisenyi College 3-1 in their final game.
UNR and APR finished level on points but the former were crowned champions because of their superior average points-difference.
Nyirimana has now rallied his youngsters to push for a double by winning this weekend’s Carre d’AS tournament.
"The players have finally come of edge. It was important to break APR’s monotony. This has given the boys greater confidence and I believe we are genuine contenders for the Carre d’AS,” the 33-year-old tactician added.
UNR, APR, Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), and Gisenyi College will compete in the men’s fray while the ladies category pits new league champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) against UNR, APR and Ruhango.
Soras are the tournament sponsors.
