He might be famous in Rwanda’s burgeoning film industry, but Danon is also excellent at music, and the blend of his crafts has earned him a spot in the country’s entertainment scene.
Born on M,ay 7, 1982, in Kacyiru, Rwanda, Danon ventured into showbiz at an early age when he started writing play scripts and songs.
His first song ‘Standing up for changing the world’ earned him fame which inspired the youngster to write even more songs, poems and films.
Danon is second in the family of nine children. He is a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. His father together with his other two siblings were massacred during the Genocide.
His debut film ‘Ikiguzi cyumunezero’ – (The price of Happiness) is soon to be released. Danon also has three singles under his belt, including: ‘Ubufatanye’ and ‘Stand up to change the world.”
The 28-year-old star said the film ‘Ikiguzi cyumunezero’ depicts what happens in society.
He further confessed that after the death of his brother, who was killed by the Interehamwe militias, in 2006 from Eastern Province, he became psychologically affected.
"His death affected me both psychologically and physically. I resorted to alcohol and abandoned my job,” Danon said.
"….but I later sobered up and decided to do a movie about his death.”
On other counters, Danon noted that there are very many Rwandans, with inspiring stories to tell but lack the financial and technical support to utilize their talents.
He added that the film industry has improved, and that the government has put in place good policies which favour the youth to contribute to the country’s development.
