AMAVUBI Stars will regroup for their next assignment-2010 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup mid next month, Bonnie Mugabe reports.
Reports from the local football governing body, Ferwafa indicate that the team will regroup on November 15, 12 days before the official kick-off in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
"This technically means that the Primus league will be temporarily called off on November 14,” Ferwafa’s CEO Jules Kalisa confirmed.
Early this week, Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh who is under pressure to deliver after a wobbly start in Rwanda’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifying campaign, revealed that he would try out a couple of fresh legs.
"You will see some new faces in the team. This is all aimed at getting the best out of the team,” he said.
"We have had a poor start in the Nation’s Cup qualifying campaign but the team will recover.”
Despite guiding the team to next year’s CHAN, the magic that saw him lead Ghana to their historic 2009 U-20 World Championship win is yet to work for him in these qualifiers.
The team has succumbed to identical 3-0 defeats in their opening qualifiers against Ivory Coast and Benin. While the Ivory Coast defeat was not so much of a shock, the Benin loss left a sour taste on many fans.
These defeats mean that there is no more room for error in Group H which also has Burundi. Presently, Ivory Coast is on top with six points, while the win against Rwanda pushed Benin into second place with four points. Burundi is third with a point while Rwanda still languishes at the bottom with zero points.
In Dar es Salaam, Rwanda will compete alongside Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Zanzibar, defending champions Uganda, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and hosts Tanzania Mainland.
