President Paul Kagame is expected to resume supervision of the land re-distribution this week in Ndego sector of Kayonza District, Eastern Province.

The exercise that kicked off last Tuesday was expected to last four days but was briefly suspended last Thursday as the President returned to Kigali for other state duties over the weekend.

But officials from the Office of the President said yesterday that the exercise would resume tomorrow.

The farms that are expected to be re-allocated include that of the Eastern Province Governor, Theoneste Mutsindashyaka, which is about 80 hectares.  Others to be re-distributed include the one of State Minster in charge of Lands and Environment, Patricia Hajabakiga, which is about 44 hectares. 

The previous owners of the farms will retain 25 hectares while the remaining land will be re-distributed to the landless. People acquiring land have been classified in four categories; those who never got land after the Genocide, returnees from Tanzania, and evictees from within the parameters of both the Akagera National Park and the Gabiro School of Infantry.

So far, the exercise has seen the farms of Senator Dr Joseph Karemera, Director of Cabinet in the Office of the President Maj. Gen. Frank Mugambage and Rwandan envoy to India Lt. Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa.

Others are Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga, Maj. Gen. Fred Ibingira, Brig. Gen. Sam Kaka, Brig. Gen. Frank Rusagara and local government minister Protais Musoni.
