The Commissioner General of Rwanda National Police (RNP), CGP Emmanuel Gasana, during a trip to Sudan, paid a courtesy call on the UNMIS Police Commissioner, Major General Rajesh Dewan, at UNMIS Headquarters in Khartoum, Sudan and also met with representatives of the Rwanda Police contingent in UNAMID and UNMIS.

Gasana was in Sudan attending the 12th Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Committee (EAPCO) Annual General meeting.
Gasana thanked the Police Commissioner for the cooperation between UNMIS and RNP.

"It is as a result of this existing cooperation that our numbers have been increased from 9 officers to 37 officers in a period of one year,” he said.

The UNMIS Police Commissioner commended RNP’s commitment to provide professional Police officers who contribute to sustainable peace and security in Sudan.
He commended the RNP Police officers in UNMIS for their discipline and professionalism which, he said, is the reason why RNP contingent members occupy senior positions at the Mission Headquarters.

The UNMIS Police Commissioner said he would visit the Rwanda National Police before he ended his tour of duty early next year.

Gasana later on in the day met the Rwandan Police contingent at the Rwanda Diplomatic Mission offices in Khartoum, where he emphasized the need for Police officers to be disciplined and professional while carrying out their daily duties as ambassadors of Rwanda, because whatever they do has a direct impact on the image of the country.

"You should always strategize, uphold values and norms and endeavour to put national interests above individual interests,” he said.

The Commissioner General thanked them for their discipline and professionalism and promised his full cooperation to ensure that they perform their duties even better.
