SIX  youth have completed a six-week Work Readiness Training under Akazi Kanoze, a skills training project organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with USAID and implemented by the Education Development Centre (EDC).

The training is aimed at equipping the youth with market-relevant skills as well as links into employment and self employment in the job market.

The youth will officially graduate on October 28 in a ceremony expected to attract government officials and representatives from the private sector.

According to the Rwanda Chief of Party at EDC, Melanie Sany, the ceremony will recognize those who finished the program and those who have found internship as well as permanent employment after finishing the training.

"Following the ceremony, the youth will have an opportunity to network with each other and also get linked to the private sector,” a statement from Sany reads.
She also revealed that by the end of this year, Akazi Kanoze plans to work with 10 local implementing partners in order to accelerate the program’s goals.

"The project is targeting 12,500 youth by September 2013; male and female, with various education levels, 5,000 of whom are orphans and vulnerable children between the ages of 14-24,” she said.

Launched in 2009, Akazi Kanoze is a four-year project which provides the youth with necessary tools and resources through skills training and employment opportunities.
