SC KIYOVU head coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira has blamed his strikers for failing to put away their chances in Sunday’s 1-0 Primus league defeat against AS Kigali.

The green baggies, who have been widely tipped to challenge APR and Rayon Sport for the title got off to a poor start although Ntagwabira believes it would be hasty to count them off.

"The players were over confident and switched off during the game. But they were all disappointed at the end of the game.”

"We created several chances but failed to convert them which is very frustrating,” the 37-year-old said.
"It is a bad start but we are going to bounce back; that I can assure you.”

Kiyovu found themselves on the back foot from the first whistle and it was no surprise when sloppy defending allowed AS Kigali to take a 10th minute lead through Tony Kwizera.

The loss capped a miserable week for Ntagwabira who is still coming to terms with the fact that he could not lure Ugandan International Johnson Bagoole and Burundi’s Karim McKenzie to the club. The pair is on the verge of sealing a move to APR after agreeing terms.

AS Kigali, APR, Rayon and Police have three points, La Jeunesse, Etincelles, Marines and Musanze have a point each while Mukura, Kiyovu, Amagaju and Muhanga have zero points.

Meanwhile, APR’s Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi has dismissed reports that he is set to join Bundesliga side F.C Cologne.

"Cologne has not yet communicated to me whether I passed the trials. I don’t know where those rumors are coming from,” he said.

The lanky midfielder, who scored APR’s only goal during their 1-0 win over Mukura, also cleared the air about rumours that he has been made the new club captain.
"Mbuyu Twite is the captain and I’m his assistant.”
