KIGALI - The Ministry of Health yesterday passed out 90 medical doctors who successfully completed an internship programme that lasted 18 months in several hospitals countrywide.

The doctors have been deployed in several hospitals in the country.

Speaking at the event, Health Minister Dr. Richard Sezibera, urged the doctors to continue investing in scientific knowledge.

"As you become better scientists, you can also become better human beings by investing in your humanity so that whenever patients come to you, you treat them with compassion, "he said.

Sezibera called upon the doctors to work fast and keep time while attending to patients.

"There are cases in some hospitals where a patient spends one hour waiting for a doctor, please, find a way of how you can reduce that time to less than 30 minutes,” he said.

"If an operation takes five hours, find out the new technology you can use to reduce those hours by carrying out the operation better and faster.”

The Health Minister urged the doctors to understand that they are not treating diseases but human beings with needs, concerns and plans.

"Remember, you’re treating Rwandans who are the pillars of our country’s economic development,” he reminded them.
According to David Ntirushwa who spoke on behalf of the new doctors,, the internship helped them gain more experience in treating patients.

"We are determined to do our best to enhance on the improvement of health care in our country,” he said.
