The University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) is planning to extend its health services, especially surgical services, to district hospitals across the country before the end of the year.
This was revealed, yesterday, by Dr Theobald Hategekimana, the Director General of the CHUK, while addressing the press on the progress and targets of the hospital.
"We usually get patients from all over the country who need urgent surgery, and this leads to the hospital having very many cases which we cannot handle,” he said.
"We shall be extending our surgical services to only hospitals that have the capacity and required equipment.”
The hospitals that meet the requirements are; Kabgayi, Ruhengeri, Nyamata, Rwamagana, Kibungo, Kibogora and Gisenyi hospitals.
Meanwhile, he said that CHUK has upgraded its capacity, by adding six new theatre rooms.
He added that the hospital currently has 38 specialist doctors. "We are doing our best to transform our hospital into the leading hospital in the country with the best services,” he said.
