Saint Joseph Integrated Technical College (SJITC) a local college yesterday, celebrated the winning of a prestigious award which was presented to them by the Initiative Business Direction (IBD).

IBD is an international organization that promotes and awards best entrepreneurs around the world.
According to the principal of the school, Brother Azarias Rwakayigamba, it is the second IBD award in Africa after Togo.

He attributed the success of the school to good methods they use in teaching their students.

"We teach our students to be entrepreneurs through giving them various hands-on skills in construction and welding,” he said, adding that the students have had tangible accomplishments in both areas.

Rwakayigamba also explained that technical training is the way to go for any country that wants to achieve development.

SJITC has also introduced short courses for people who want to have some hands-on training.

Speaking to The New Times, Florence Kiza, a student who has completed at the school, said that she is ready to become an entrepreneur using the knowledge she acquired at the school.

She urged fellow girls to pursue technical courses like she did if they want to become entrepreneurs. SJITC was initiated in 1970 with 15 students, but it now has over 500 students.
