Members of the National Demographer Corporation (NADECO) have said that they will work with other concerned institutions to curb over population in the country.

While addressing their first general assembly at Kigali Independent University, the group’s president, Medard Rutayisire, said population growth is one of the many challenges facing the country’s development.

"One of the major challenges which our country is currently facing is the rapid increase in population, so as experts in demography and population issues, we are determined to fight this problem in collaboration with all concerned institutions,” he said.

He added that the problem does not match with the country’s economy and land, adding that they are planning to move around the country to sensitize and mobilize the population to produce fewer children who they can take care of.

Rutayisire called upon fellow members to always strive to promote sustainable development through the use of available statistics about the population in the country.
He added that they intend to have partnerships with other demography organizations in various parts of the world like Canada, America, France, among others, in order to share their skills and knowledge.

"According to our analysis and observation, there are insufficient professionals in the field of population issues, whereby you find that there no even enough data. We will work with the government and other concerned institutions in addressing this challenge,” he noted.

Rutayisire said that NADECO was formed in June this year and currently has over 150 members, most of them from ULK.
