The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), last week, donated an assortment of  items to vulnerable pupils in different parts of the country.

In Muhanga district, the items worth Rwf 700,000 were given to children with various physical impairments at the centre of handicapped children in Nyamabuye sector.

The Bank’s head of corporate affairs, Ajulu D.Ojoo, said that they are committed to helping the Rwandan community and reaching out to the needs of the people.

"We are here to stay and want to be associated with the people of Rwanda and help them in their areas of need. This donation is part of the Banks’ values of social development and we are sensitive and committed to caring for the community,” Ajulu said.

Léoncie Mukamwezi, the HRD director, called on other private institutions to emulate KCB’s gesture.
He added that infrastructure was one of their biggest challenges and appealed for support from well wishers. The centre is home to over 230 children.

KCB’s Branch Manager in Muhanga, Pie Eugene Rubagumya, promised that KCB staff will closely follow up the needs of the children and pay more visits to the centre.

The children, most of them using sign languages, expressed gratitude for the gifts and managed to share happy moments with KCB staff through songs and dances.

At Natharren School in Rubavu district, the bank donated bedding materials to 15 students and transport home when schools close.

"We have set aside about $100, 000 to help the needy mostly the orphans…including giving them pocket money worth Rwf 5000 each to facilitate their movement home after schools close,” KCB Rubavu Branch Manager, Vedaste Musafiri said.

The school’s director Mathew Kasangala, said his school is happy to have friends like KCB who think about orphans.
Meanwhile, in Rusizi district, the items that included scholastic materials like chalk, exercise books, pens, sanitation materials as well as sports materials worth about Rwf700,000 were donated to pupils at St Bruno Primary School, in Gihundwe cell, Kamembe sector.

"This is not the first time we are doing such an activity. The KCB family aims not only at making profits but also considers the wellbeing of the community,” said Felix

Rukamirwa, the bank’s Kamembe branch manager.
Maurice Bayingana, one of the school’s staff said the donation came as a surprise to them. "We regarded banks as profit organizations that cared less about education or even charity,” he said.
