After the new cabinet was sworn-in last week, the President advised the Ministers to work as a team in the Government’s endeavor to improve the living standards of the Rwandan people.

While each Ministry has its own specific mandate, the overall objective is more less the same.

Rwanda’s tragic history, and remarkable recovery, has made it one of the few countries in this World that draw lots of attention.

The list of detractors appears to be growing by the day and there seems to be a deliberate plot to show that all is not well in the country.

Despite all the hullabaloo, what matters most at the end of the day is the well being of the Rwandan people. And, that’s what makes leadership in Rwanda a greater challenge.

To justify one’s leadership position, the results have to speak for themselves. Leaders, today, must develop a results-oriented, high-performing culture across all government institutions. 

It’s no easy task, especially with the complexity of our context and meager resources. However, it is possible, as has been proven over the last sixteen years, where the country had to rebuild from scratch.

But to get to greater heights, teamwork and partnerships are paramount.

Ministers must work together at their level and also work together with the citizenry when setting, and achieving their goals.

Important too, is the private sector. Public-private partnerships go a long way is spurring the developmental targets we are looking to achieve.
