Students should have been warned earlier about ‘bourse’
Editor, I was shocked to read in yesterdays’ Sunday Times that the government would halt giving university students a monthly stipend of Rwf25,000 because it was eating up too much of the Education Ministry’s budget.

Editor,
I was shocked to read in yesterdays’ Sunday Times that the government would halt giving university students a monthly stipend of Rwf25,000 because it was eating up too much of the Education Ministry’s budget.
I totally understand the rationale of the decision, especially in light of increased prioritisation of primary and secondary education.
My only gripe with the decision is that it’s been made at a tricky period. I would have loved it if the Education Ministry had given students a longer period to look for Plan B.
