KIGALI - Rwanda has been chosen to host the regional Commonwealth forum which is expected to take place at the end of this year, The Sunday Times has learnt.

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, Carl Wright, revealed that Rwanda was nominated by all regional countries due to its commitment and capability.

"You know Rwanda now is a member of Commonwealth countries and it has really shown commitment towards Commonwealth. That is why we decided that this forum be held in Rwanda,” Wright revealed, Friday.

"We are still negotiating with Rwanda to get the exact period, but I think by the end of this year is when we shall hold it,” he said.

The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, said that it is still in the pipeline but chances of Rwanda hosting the forum are more than 90 percent.

"We are still discussing with the organizers. We have not yet confirmed the date and the month but we hope by December this year or early next year the forum will take place in Rwanda,” he explained.

The forum is aimed at discussing regional issues concerning local government development in commonwealth countries.
