Ivory Coast and Cameroon will grace this year’s Cecafa (Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations) senior Challenge Cup to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in November and December.
This was confirmed by the Cecafa secretary general, Nicholas Musonye (Ken) during the launch of the tournament set to bring together atleast 12 nations on Thursday in Dar es Salaam.
Ivory Coast have confirmed that they will be bring a home-based outfit while Cameroon will confirm their position in a week’s time. There is also a request for participation from Zambia, regular participants in this regional tournament.
Musonye said all the 11 Cecafa countries will be gracing the tournament which will to run from November 2 to December 11.
"The visiting teams will surely spice our tournament and I can guarantee you a great football feast,” Musonye said at the event that also saw Serengeti Breweries announce a major sponsorship for the tournament.
The brewers are putting US$450,000 into the tournament. The money will go into the air transportation of teams, accommodations, local transport and logistics.
The sponsorship was announced by the Serengeti Breweries Generakl Manager for public relations and corporate communications, Teddy Mapunda accompanied by executive ddirector Ajay Mehta. The tournament will thus be known as Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup.
"We have had very many good tournament in the past, but with the Serengeti sponsorship we intend to make this tournament the best ever,” Musonye told an international Press Conference after the sponsorship signing ceremony.
He was accompanied by the Cecafa president Leodegar Tenga who is also the president of the Tanzania football Federation.
"Our sponsors have played a crucial role in our endevour to present a good tournament and as Cecafa we shall ensure that all teams come, they are accommodated well and in return give us good football,” Tenga said.
