Amavubi Stars sloppiness in-front of goal was severely punished by Benin yesterday as the West Africans romped to a 3-0 win in the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier at Amahoro stadium.

All Benin’s goals came in the second half through Tchomogo Séïdath, Omotoyossi Razack and Sessègnon Stephane.
The visitors started impressively and controlled the game in the first quarter of an hour and striker Tchomogo Séïdath’s had the first real gal attempt but his shot was wide off the mark.

Amavubi then took control of the match with Kiyovu striker Daddy Birori proving a constant menace for the Benin defence with his incisive penetration and he missed chances two good chances within a space of three minutes. He even missed when one-on-one with the keeper.

His strike partner Kipson Atuhaire was disappointing as he lacked a killer instinct, wasting a couple of good opportunities in the final minutes of the first half.
Benin saw Omotoyossi Razak and Chrysostome Damien hit the woodwork.

On the stroke of half time, skipper Haruna Niyonzima’s free kick hit the far post before coming off the near post but there was no Rwandan player to make any contact with the ball and the first half ended with the host on a high but with no goals to show for it.

After the break, Amavubi failed to start off from where they left in the first half and coach Sellas Tetteh brought on Police striker Roger Tchouassi for Atuhaire, but instead it was the Beninans, who opened the scoring when Séïdath’s long range shot caught keeper Jean Luc Ndayishimiye with no chance.

Tetteh made further changes as he searched for something from then game, bringing on Anwar Kibaya for Jean Claude Iranzi, who struggled for most of the game.

But the substitution did not make any impact as Omotoyossi Razack scored a rebound after his captain Sessègnon Stephane’s shot had hit the post.

Stephane, who plays for French ligue 1 club Paris St.Germaine, rounded off Amavubi’s miserable afternoon with well crafted goal two minutes from time.

In the other Group H match that pitted Burundi against Ivory Coast in Bujumbura ended in a 1-0 win in favour of the visitors. Arsenal’s Emmanuel Eboue scored the all important goal from a free kick.

After two rounds of qualifiers, Rwanda remains at the foot of Group H with no points. Ivory Coast top the group with 6 points, Benin are second with 4 points while Burundi is third with one point.
