AFTER two weeks of intensive training, the national rugby schools select side left for Uganda this morning to compete in the two-day Independence Schools rugby tournament which kicks off tomorrow at Dam waters in Jinja.

The 12-man team, which has training under the tutelage of Silverbacks stars Vincent Kamali and Olivier Uwamahoro, will be playing in their first regional tournament.

According to Gerald Nsenga, the technical Director of the Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF), the team was put together after last month’s post primary rugby competition which was won by Apred Ndera.

"They looked very solid and focused during training. It is true that they are taking part in the tourney for the first time but that should not deter them from putting up a good fight,” Nsenga said.

On a related note, Rwanda’s national side - the Silverbacks are training three days a week in preparation for the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) 15-aside competition that will be hosted in Kigali next month.
