RWANDA may have gone down against Egypt in yesterday’s semi-final (1-3) but there is no doubt that the team has made a statement at this year’s Junior African Nations championship in Libya.

Having topped their Group (A) with a clean sheet after wins over hosts Libya, Chad and Morocco, the team pushed Egypt in each of the three sets in the semi-final.

Rwanda started strong by winning the opening set thanks to excellent work at the net by Placide Sibomana and Vincent Dusabimana but the North Africans fought back to win the next three sets 28-26, 26-24, 25-19 in 117 minutes of exciting action.

Reigning champions Tunisia also qualified for the final the hard way as they had to grind out a 3-2 win over Moroccan (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13).
In classification games, South Africa overcame Chad 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-11), while Libya crushed Ivory Coast 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-14).

The final set for Sunday, will be the tenth between the African giants in the history of the competition that started in 1984. Rwanda also plays Morocco for the bronze medal in their second face off in this competition.
