KIGALI - Parliament has passed over 100 laws in the past two years. This was revealed yesterday by the Speaker of Parliament, Rose Mukantabana, on the second anniversary of the current Parliament which was sworn-in on October 6, 2008.

"50 percent of the laws that we passed were business-related; over 25 percent related to good governance; 10 percent were on social affairs; while 9 percent were related to judicial matters,” said Mukantabana.

The Speaker added that on top of the 100 laws, there some 12 other bills that the Chamber of Deputies passed and are in the promulgation process.

Top of the agenda of the current session is the swearing-in of the Cabinet, which remains unchanged from the previous presidential term. President Paul Kagame decided to retain all members after being re-elected in August.
The Cabinet will be sworn-in today. The Speaker revealed that the lawmakers were happy that the President kept faith in his cabinet.

"We are happy for President Kagame’s decision to retain his previous government because, during our government oversight business, we realized that all the Ministers we summoned here implemented our recommendations. We are, therefore, happy to work with the same vibrant and delivering team,” said Mukantabana.
